Focused on providing encouragement and resources to runners of all abilities, new partnership will bring more than 500 members to the annual event on Feb. 9

MIAMI, June 27, 2019 — The 2020 Miami Marathon and Half Marathon, owned and produced by Life Time, today announced a one year partnership with Black Girls RUN!, a national running group consisting of more than 250,000 members. The 2020 event on Feb. 9 will serve as a meet-up race for members of the running group and provide additional resources and encouragement to both new and veteran runners.

“Black Girls RUN! is a fitness resource for all women in their efforts to attain and maintain healthy and active lifestyles,” said Jay Ell Alexander, Owner and CEO of Black Girls RUN!. “Providing meet-up experiences such as the Miami Marathon to our community of runners helps words become action – and allows us a platform to introduce our group to many others along the way. I anticipate upwards of 500 members to participate in this year’s race.”

According to the Black Girls RUN! website,

  • African American women have the highest rates of being overweight or obese compared to other groups in the U.S.
  • About four out of five African American women are overweight or obese.
  • With more than 70 running groups across the U.S., Black Girls RUN! has created a movement that encourages a healthy lifestyle.

“The founding mission of Black Girl’s RUN! to battle the obesity epidemic aligns with Life Time’s goal of supporting our communities and providing extraordinary event experiences that help our participants lead healthy, happy lives,” said Nicole Bostick, Senior Brand Manager, Miami Events, at Life Time. “Our 2020 Miami Marathon expects to welcome 20,000 runners of every age, ability and race, many of whom have overcome weight challenges of their own. We’re thrilled to welcome them to this event.”

In addition to serving as a meet-up event, Black Girls RUN! will have a presence at the Miami Marathon Expo and brand exposure on specially-designed finisher medals and apparel which will be designed collaboratively between both parties.
