My Fit Foods

April 01, 2013

oie_722948onojkiixBy: Celeste Davie I’m not a spokesperson for eating out because I believe cooking at home is the best way to go. You know what you’re getting and you can prepare your meals with good healthy ingredients. However, I came across this great restaurant called My Fit Foods, which leaves me feeling not so guilty about not cooking a healthy meal at home. Well technically it’s not a restaurant. Their food is fresh pre-packaged meals that are cooked daily onsite. My thinking was that you can't go wrong with a name like My Fit Food…right? It’s a great concept! The meals are tasty, good for your health and your waistline. I went to My Fit Foods for something different to eat. Their meals are perfectly portioned meals available in small, medium, and large sizes, made with the freshest ingredients. Unhealthy fats, gluten, sodium, sugar are kept to a minimum, while flavors are maximized with antioxidant rich herbs and spices. The customer service is really great here too. The staff will walk you through your whole shopping experience. My Fit Foods was founded by personal trainer, Mario Mendias who started cooking meals for his clients who were too busy to shop and prepare healthy meals at home. My Fit Foods labels their food red if it is spicy and blue if it is gluten oie_7221224ckbtx2exfree. They serve vegan and vegetarian meals and the food is diabetic friendly. Their meals average about $10. All meals and snacks are focused on:
  • Low Glycemic Index Carbohydrates - Foods are low on the glycemic index (less than 55) that will leave you feeling energized all day instead of lethargic. Examples are steel cut oats, quinoa, sweet potatoes, parboiled rice, squash, leafy green vegetables, and a variety of fruits.
  • Heart Health Fats - Healthy oils that lower inflammation and aid in weight loss goals. Examples are macadamia nut oil, olive oil, small amounts of real butter, and a variety of nuts and seeds.
  • Lean proteins - A variety of their meals are made with lean protein sources such as chicken breast, beef tenderloin, shrimp, ground turkey, and a 5 to 1 egg white and egg yolk mix.
  • Antioxidant Rich Spices - Antioxidants lower inflammation and slow the aging process and one of the best ways to get them is through spices. They cook their meals with cumin, garlic, cilantro, rosemary, thyme, oregano, turmeric, and cayenne pepper.
oie_72210524bdmo0noMy Fit Foods has locations in California, Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma, and Idaho. If you're looking for great meals to go, then you have to try My Fit Foods. Visit their website at myfitfoods.com for more information.
