Push Yourself

August 29, 2012

By: Demitria Lyles   It's not a workout if you aren't working out of your comfort zone a little bit. I mean think about it, how do you think Sanya Richards-Ross became an Olympic medalist? It certainly wasn't by jogging until she started to lose her breath. She had to have pushed herself a little bit. Think of yourself: how did you get to the point where you actually got up, out, and ran? Pushing yourself doesn't mean running until you feel like a dried raisin and it certainly doesn't mean only going the extra mile for 3 seconds. When you push yourself, you completely step out of your comfort zone. For example, if you always stop running when you get to the deadly uphill, at least 2 days out of your running schedule, try to conquer the hill. It's very likely your twice a run challenge, will become something that's part of your regular running routine. Once you train your body to conquer the hill, you'll be looking for the next thing to try. Now challenging yourself doesn't have to be up in the air. You can set your stopwatch to remind you when to pick up the pace a tad and of course, you can set it when it's time to cool yourself down. So gravitate toward stepping out of the box, but don't be too risky, as this can lead to injuries. The key is to listen to your body!
