Maintaining the "Do"

August 28, 2012

As women, we take pride in making sure our hair is always in tip-top shape. Running and a new hair do seems like oil and water: they just don’t mix. No matter how you approach trying to maintain your freshly pressed locks, you just never win, right? Well it’s time to prove that wrong! So there’s a way to keep your hair looking nice even after a run? Yes ma’am! We often underestimate wrapping our hair and think that we should only wrap it when going to sleep or if it’s humid outside. Why not try wrapping your hair or edges with a silk scarf before working out? If you add cute hat or beanie in the winter, you’ll be good to go. But wait! You should never unwrap your hair right after you’re done working out. The key is to let it completely dry before taking the scarf off. So give it the drive home or even after you take a shower to take it off. A silk scarf on of  the best ways to maintain your hair after a workout because it protects your edges from flaring up due to perspiration. Another way to keep your edges protected is the Save Your Do Wrap made by Actress Nicole Ari Parker. Keep in mind that this is certainly not a substitute for washing and conditioning your hair. This is simply an easy way to prevent you from having to wash it everyday after a workout if you’re wearing it in a certain style. For my naturals that rocking the fro, humidity from outside may be your hair’s favorite thing, but just in case you want to maintain those edges, you can also use a silk scarf or Save Your Do as a headband and let the rest hang free!
