It's summer time! Though it's slowly coming to an end, the kids are still of out school, the sun and summer heat still beam down on you, and a well-deserved vacation is still calling your name! Not only is a vacation calling your name, but so are all of the good eats that come with going out of town.
It's so easy to go on a family vacay or girls' trip and get completely off track when it comes to your diet. Come on, we are all guilty of using the infamous, but guilt-trip excuse, "I'm on vacation." before devouring something we know we should skimmed over while looking on the menu. So often we think that since we are on vacation, we can eat not only when we are hungry, but whenever food is sitting right under our nose.
It's possible to maintain a healthy diet even on vacation. I mean, we have to preserve the sexy everywhere and at all times, right? Let's be realistic; there are times when you should treat yourself, but having a limit is the key. "How do you pass up strawberry crepes with cream if you are in Paris? How do you manage to vacation in Hawaii without tasting pineapple cheesecake? How can you resist stopping at Dairy Queen with the kids and having a chocolate-dipped Frosty?
The answer is: you don't. Just try to keep your treats to one a day. After that, opt for a healthy choice instead." says Elaine Magee, MPH, RD. Another thing that may help when trying to maintain your diet is walking after a meal. Whether it be around the mall or around the pool at your hotel, walking is your secret weapon. Lastly, an important thing to keep in mind is to look for healthy alternatives on the menu during your table serviced meals. Most restaurants give you large portions so why not make it healthy?
So remember ladies, the best way to preserve the sexy and maintain your diet away from home is to set a limit of a treat a day, walk it off, and of course try to make as many healthy choices as you can!
