New Running Shoes!

August 29, 2009

Today I am mourning the death of my running shoes. They have seen their fair share of dog crap, mud puddles, gum, unidentified substances on sidewalks miles and terrain. Yesterday I heard them take their last breath as I was climbing the final hill of my run. The rubber of the sole pulled away from the shoe nearly tripping me and scraped along as I finished.

So, I’m now shoe shopping! This is not quite as much fun as shopping for strappy heels with other people’s money, but I am excited to have a new pair of kicks. I have narrowed down my choices to the Nike Air Max 2009 and Asics GT2140.

"The Nike Air Max+ 2009 Women's Running Shoe delivers maximum comfort and cushioning for runners with an underpronated to neutral gait." - Nike
The Nike Air Max 2009 looks good, feels great and I feel like I can run faster and jump higher in them. (I am not endorsed by Nike) Not to mention I have been wearing Nike since 1994, and I have owned almost every pair of Air Maxes. I almost feel like I am changing my religion if I go with a different shoe. Here is a link to the best deal I have found so far for the Air Max +.
Pros: I have medium arches and a neutral gait, so I like that the shoes provides lots of cushioning.
Cons: Air Maxes are not considered structured running shoes and they retail for $159.

"The best-selling stability shoe ever hasn't changed much, and that's a good thing"
  - Runner's World

The fact that Asics is one of the most popular running shoes speaks for itself. When I tried on the shoe, I really liked how light it felt. It was also wide enough for my super wide feet, which is the reason I typically wear Nike. Here is a link to the best deal I have found for Asics.
Pros: The gel cushion, which provides shock absorption is probably the number one selling point for me. The shoe also has great stability.
Cons: I wish the shoe had more arch support, and I don't like the way the shoes look. (Very superficial and unimportant.)

So, what do you guys think, should I stick with Nike or venture out and try the Asics?
