Reader Inquiry: How do I lose post-baby pounds?

April 17, 2009

I'm by no means a weight loss expert, so I was a little surprised when I received a message via Facebook today inquiring about my new, leaner figure. I thought it was rather amusing since I've struggled with my weight since elementary school (seriously).

The message read as follows:

Hey Toni! How are you? I have noticed that you are really fit and you workout a lot. I also noticed from your pictures you are a lot slimmer and trimmer than you were during your COACH days. I need to loose the remaining 15 pounds of baby fat and I was wondering if you have any suggestions on a workout plan and a diet plan?

First things first. The next time you and your husband decide to have a baby, make him pay for a personal trainer post-baby. To answer your question, I don't believe in fad or celebrity diets so if you're looking for a quick fix, stop reading now. I became a vegetarian over a year ago after reading Skinny Bitch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin (look for a book review soon) and that is when my weight loss began. Before a became a vegetarian I was a solid size 10. After giving up the meat I dropped to a size 6. Since I've started training for a marathon (January 2009) I've dropped down to a 4 (and some 2's).

Now, I'm not saying give up meat, but what I am suggesting is that eating healthy and getting plenty of exercise is the key. And honestly, I don't believe there's any better exercise than running. So, if you're looking to drop some lb's relatively quick, more fruits and veggies, less bad fat and junk food and tie up your running shoes and get to moving. Also, check back here as we add more workout tips, recipes and other fun stuff to help preserve the sexy.
