Running alone is so overrated. For safety and motivational reasons, you should always try to run with a girlfriend, guy friend, or even your big furry fella: your dog. It’s so easy to pop headphones in during an evening run and totally shut yourself out from what is going on around you.
Why not get a running partner to be your eyes and ears for you and, of course, vice versa. Don’t know who you have as a partner? Utilize your BGR account and look for runners in your area! Whether they live in your neighborhood or a few miles away, you could always meet up at the park or at a neighborhood high school’s track. If you aren’t able to find a fellow BGR runner (which will probably be absurd seeing as though we are everywhere! (-: ), as a co-worker or a guy friend. Scheduling is quite important so be sure that you find a time that works well for you!
No matter what, you should always be aware of your surroundings. If there’s a running jitter and you want to go out for a spur of the moment run, carry your maize and/or a stick, and please make sure your music isn’t too loud.

I have run alone for years – with my headset (never too loud of course) – and I wouldn’t have my running any other way. I hate running crowds and I don’t do marathons – never have, never will.
For those that love the company, a running buddy is great. I carry a 380 under my legally concealed Hello Kitty shirt. I have never had an incident and don’t ever expect to. I always run in busy areas – never back woods or anything like that.
I like running as a solitare activity. I don’t imagine that will ever change. I wouldn’t want it to. But I respect the wishes of those who need a buddy / dog to tag along.
Oddly enough, I’m a very outgoing, social person. Except …. when I run. Then I want to be left alone to go in my direction to the beat of my own music. I don’t wish to share that time with anyone.
Yes, I always bring my dog with me everytime I jog. Also, it is more motivating to have a friend with you- all the talks make me feel as if I am not jogging at all.
