Nervous about running your first 5K? We’re giving the BGR! Nation an opportunity to get off the couch and on the pavement together!! Black Girls RUN! is hosting its first ever virtual WALKB4URUN! 5K! Our WALKB4URUN! is a training program developed by Black Girls RUN! to take you from walking to running your first 5K. Similar, to the Couch to 5K program, this training program gradual progresses and is perfect for people who have never run a 5K before. You can complete on your own, with a local BGR! group, on the treadmill, with friends, just as long as you get it done! Everyone is welcome to participate, we just want to see you up and moving!
How Does It Work?
1) Register online for WalkB4URUN! Virtual 5K (Ask your friends and family to register too!)
2) Train! Do not forget to download the Black Girls RUN! WalkB4URUN! 5K Training Plan. You can download it here.
3) Plan your run! Choose a location, and do not forget to map it before hand to complete the full 3.1 miles.
4) Connect with your local Black Girls RUN! group! Many of our groups are leading WALKB4URUN! training sessions. Feel free to connect with them to get some on the ground support! You can join Black Girls RUN! and/or find a group in your city by visiting members.blackgirlsrun.com.
5) Download and print your virtual bib! Hit the pavement alone or with your BGR! crew on Saturday. December 21. It does not matter your pace, location, or time you run. Just get it in on December 21! Tweet @blackgirlsrun or Instagram @officialblackgirlsrun your virtual run photos.
And, Congratulations! You did it! You will receive your race bling no later than January 10.
Q: What is the WALKB4URUN! program?
A: The WALKB4URUN! program is a training program developed by Black Girls RUN! to take you from walking to running your first 5K. Q: What is a virtual race?
A: A virtual race is a “race” that can be run anywhere you are.
Q: Why are you doing a virtual race instead of an actual road race?
A: It’s difficult to give all of our members an opportunity to participate in our events. A virtual race gives everyone the opportunity to run with the BGR! crew all while earning some bling!

Q: Can we go to a physical location and register?
A: No, you must register online.
Q: How is the WALKB4URUN! program different from the Couch to 5K program?
A: The WALKB4URUN! program is very similar to the Couch to 5K program. However, there are two primary differences. The first three weeks of the WBYR program consists of walking to give you more time to get comfortable with the idea of getting active. Also, we focus on time, rather than the amount of miles. For most people, time is a less intimidating way to train than to focus on miles.
Q: Do I have to be a member of Black Girls RUN! to participate in the WBYR program?
A: Absolutely not. We encourage anyone to register and train for your first 5K with us.
Q: Do I have to participate in the local WALKB4URUN! program to participate?
A: No. Anyone can participate.
Q: I was injured/sick/etc. can I receive a refund?
A: There will be NO refunds. No exceptions.
Q: When/where will local groups host WBYR training runs?
A: Each group has its own schedule for weekly runs and WBYR training runs. You can connect with your local Black Girls RUN! group by visiting members.blackgirlsrun.com to get additional details about local runs.
Q: What’s in it for me?
A: Black Girls RUN! is a fantastic opportunity to achieve your health and fitness goals with other like-minded women! If you need the extra push or motivation, our group is just for you! Participants of the WBYR Virtual 5K will recieve the official WALKB4URUN! training schedule , race bib and official WALKB4URUN! medal at the completion of the 5K.
Q: Will I receive a bib or medal?
A: Yes, each participant will receive a downloadable bib upon registering and medal that will be mailed after the race. There will be NO t-shirts or virtual race swag bags.
Q: Do I have to run on December 21 or complete all of the miles in one day?
A: Yes! Part of the fun is knowing that there are thousands of Black Girls RUN! ladies running all across the country on Dec. 21. Once you complete your run, you will need to upload your time to our website. We are requesting that you upload your time no later than Monday, Dec. 23 at 11:59p.m. otherwise we cannot guarantee that you will receive your medal.
Q: Does the run have to take place at a certain time?
A: No. Just so it happens on Saturday, December 21.
Q: Do I have to upload my times to receive a medal.
A: Yes! We want to make sure you actually ran! We know… Accountability!
Q: Do I have to complete the 5K outside?
A: No, you can complete the 5K on a treadmill if you’d like! Just remember to keep track of your time!
Q: What if I forget my time or can’t track it?
A: Do the best you can and provide an estimate.
Q: How will Black Girls RUN! verify participants and times?
A: We are relying on good faith! We hope that no one fudges the truth.
Q: Do I have to complete the Virtural WBYR race with a BGR! group?
A: No. You can complete with your local group or solo! Just get er’ done!

Q: I forgot to/didn’t register. Can I still participate?
A: You can certainly participate with your local Black Girls RUN! group, however, you will not receive a race bib or medal.
