There are two things that will never go out of style: being healthy and being sexy! Join Black Girls RUN! in its first national “Black Girls Run! Preserve the Sexy Tour.” Starting January 2013, Black Girls RUN! will travel to cities in the “Stroke Belt” that have some of the highest obesity rates in the United States to host one-day health and fitness clinics. The Stroke Belt is a name given to the Southeastern region of the United States by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for having an unusually high incidence of stroke and other forms of cardiovascular disease. These health and fitness clinics will share Black Girls RUN!’s unique “Walk Before You RUN!” training program, guiding women in their journey from walking to running. Participants will also receive information and tools on choosing the best running gear, hair maintenance tips, nutrition and healthy eating, and more.
Participants attending the “Walk Before You RUN!” clinics will receive a comprehensive toolkit to get them out of the door and onto the pavement. The “Preserve the Sexy” tour stops include:
January 5 – Nashville, Tennessee
February 2 – Birmingham, Alabama
February 9 – Miami, Florida
March 16 – Richmond, Virginia
April 20 – Atlanta, Georgia
May 11 – Jackson, Mississippi
June 8 – Greenville/Spartanburg, South Carolina
The tour is open to beginner runners, walkers, non-Black Girls RUN! members and current Black Girls RUN! members. Click here to register for the January 5, Nashville, Tennessee tour stop.

Do you know where in Richmond, VA the March 16th event will be held?

Comment I just joined but I see theres nothing for Houston, tx how can I start this in Houston?
We have a group up and running already in Houston. In regards to the tour, we have not announced the second leg of locations yet. We are hitting the cities in the “stroke belt” for the first few tour stops.

Saw your interview on MSNBC and was shocked to find 4 out of 5 Black women are obese. Shocking! Thanks for the boost of confidence to remain in the gym and follow a healthy diet. Hope to see the tour when it comes to Atlanta, GA. I am stationed at Ft.Gordon in Augusta, Ga.

I am trying to stay healthy too! I know a few ladies (including myself) who will traveling to ATL on 4/20/2013 so maybe one day we will meet. I have never ran before in my life and a few local BGR members have really encouraged me. I downloaded the free app “Couch to 5K” and it has been soooooo helpful for a beginner like myself. Keep up the good work!

Good evening. I am bummed because my children’s track schedule just came home today and their first meet is on March 16th. I purchased tickets for my daughter and myslef to attend the tour in Richmond, but will not be able to attend. How would I go about getting a refund? I purchased the Early Bird Special.

Our membership portal is down for large-scale upgrades. In the meantime, you can connect with BGR! by going to Facebook and searching for the group you’d like to join. Simply type “Black Girls RUN! [group name]“. For example, if you were looking for the our group in New York City or Charlotte, you would type “Black Girls RUN! NYC” or “Black Girls RUN! Charlotte”.

I’m a resident of the Mobile,AL area, and would love to join a BGR group in my area as well. I see that there are groups in Atlanta, Birmingham and Jackson, Ms. Will there be other groups in our area as well or just the surrounding areas?

When will the registration link appear for the BGR conference in Charlotte in Sept? I would like to register. It said it would open April 1st.
What happened to the Dallas,TX date in June? I kept waiting for it to open but don’t see it on the list anymore.
