Weak in the Knees – Black Women’s Fitness

October 19, 2010

My knee with the full knee and lateral support tape job.

I am far more comfortable when I am using the phrase “weak in the knees” to describe my feelings towards my boyfriend, rather than the actual weakness in my knees. Seriously, if my knees could talk, I can only imagine that they would yell and scream about the last 20-miler I ran and these last few weeks of training.

With the marathon just a few weeks away, I decided that I had to find some sort of bandage or brace to wear during my runs. Luckily I have amazing friends like Stacey aka @CrimsonPurl, who put me on KT Tape. How does KT tape work? Well, it’s pretty simple. The tape comes in a roll with pre-cut strips that you apply along your ligaments and joints to give them support during your activity. It can be applied to different body parts. I’m using it on my knees, but it can be used pretty much all over your body – feet, shoulders, ankles, back and even shins. Another great feature of the tape is that it is waterproof, so it can be worn in the pool or over a period of days. I have to admit it holds up really well in water. I taped my knee and left it on there for three days and I didn’t have any problems with slippage.

Applying the tape is a little challenging at first until you get the hang of it. The tape does come with detailed instructions, but I found the youtube videos to be most helpful. So far, I’ve tried both the full knee support and lateral knee methods and sometimes I wear them both at the same time because I like the extra support.

Have you guys used KT Tape? If so, what are your thoughts? What other products are you guys using to help your deal with injuries?

Haven’t tried taping yet, but want to.

Have you tried the CW-X tights? (I’ve heard that they’re great but really easy to run or tear.)

I haven’t tried the CW-X tights. I really want a pair, but I want to make sure they are worth the hefty price tag. I didn’t know that they tear easily. I would hope that running tights that are that expensive would be of better quality.

I haven’t tried it but can definitely relate to the aches and pains of those long runs. Glad to hear its helping.

Now u know I would pimp this tape to a man w/ no legs LOL
    YEP I think it’s magic :) & I see u got pink, as I got red Haha
They have purple now & I need to get that in my rotation too.

The tape is definitely the cheaper alternative to the CWX tights. I plan to drop that $$ down soon for those puppies.

I have a few runner buds who consistently wear them and never hear of tears, but will ask them just in case.

Will keep u posted once I get mine & wear regularly.
I love that tights use the kinesology in them and after trying them on they indeed have major support on knees ITB and back. I believe they will be worth it!

  6. Decent reading. Like your blog design also. Keep up the good work.

  7. [...] 3. KT Tape – I blogged about KT Tape when I was training for my marathon. Basically, the tape is magic. It provides support to the knee but doesn’t restrict movement at all. One of the things about my knee pain is that I feel it even after my workouts. So, KT Tape helps because the same tape job can be worn for a few days (even in the shower). Check out my KT Tape post here. [...]
