I was really into running last summer, so I read through a lot of running blogs. I came across another black woman’s blog where she was commenting on the events of a marathon she ran. She stated that she ran by a few people who were breathing very hard and she thought they should have stayed home.

After that comment I became very insecure about running. I have asthma and I do not like to rely on my inhaler, so if I do not breathe a certain way I will have an asthma attack. I tend to breathe harder than the average person, but I never thought of it as something to worry about.

This quote reminds me of those feelings. I have since come to the realization that I cannot waste time trying to please people. I like to run, so I run. Running helps me in many aspects of my life and I will not let negative thoughts affect me. I am going to run a 5k in October and if someone has a problem with my breathing, I invite them to turn up the volume on their headphones or run faster =)

I love your blog!! You all are very inspiring and I hope to continue running for as long as I can.
